Voznesensky monastery, Orthodox monastery in Barkalabava, Belarus
Voznesensky monastery is an Orthodox convent for nuns located in the village of Barkalabava, in the Mogilev region of Belarus. The complex includes a church, residential buildings for the sisters, and a walled courtyard that separates the daily life of the community from the rest of the village.
The monastery was founded in 1641, making it one of the oldest active Orthodox communities in Belarus. It was closed and reopened several times over the centuries, including during the Soviet period, before being restored to religious use after the country's independence.
The monastery houses a venerated icon of the Mother of God that draws pilgrims from across the region. On feast days, the church and courtyard fill with worshippers, giving the site a very different feel from a quiet weekday visit.
Barkalabava is a small village best reached by private vehicle or local connections from Mogilev. Since this is an active convent, visitors should wear modest clothing and be mindful of the community's daily schedule when planning their visit.
The monastery grounds contain a spring that local believers consider to have healing properties. Pilgrims who come here often seek out this spring as part of their visit, not just the church buildings.
