Яновское водохранилище, reservoir in Belarus
Yanovskoe Reservoir is a man-made lake in the Grodno Region situated on the Lasha River. The water body stretches roughly 8 kilometers in length and reaches about 400 meters across at its widest point, with steep banks and two bays.
The reservoir was created in 1955 to generate electricity and irrigate surrounding fields. After the original power plant ceased operation, the site gradually became a gathering place for local people.
The reservoir sits in a region with Lithuanian heritage, where local communities gather for celebrations along its shores. Residents use this place to maintain traditions and share their connection to the land with visitors.
The site is easily accessible by road from Ostrovets and offers walkways along the shoreline. Visitors should note that the banks are steep and sturdy footwear is recommended.
A small island of roughly 2000 square meters sits within the water, creating an unexpected focal point for exploration. Vegetation surrounding the island and shoreline gives the reservoir a more organic feel despite its artificial origin.
