Oakville

Oakville is a municipality on Lake Ontario between Toronto and Hamilton with two harbors and waterfront parks. The settlement spreads across a wide area with residential neighborhoods, shopping streets and green spaces along the lakeshore.

Colonel William Chisholm founded the place in 1827 after acquiring Crown land and built shipyards at the mouths of creeks. The settlement developed through shipbuilding and its location on the main connecting road to Hamilton.

The Performing Arts Centre hosts musical evenings and theater productions that involve artists from nearby Sheridan College. Visitors experience local productions in an active space that brings students and professionals together.

The Queen Elizabeth Way connects the municipality with Toronto and cities west along the lake. GO Transit offers train connections for commuters and visitors who want to explore the area without a car.

Ford Motor Company maintains its Canadian headquarters here and operates a large automobile manufacturing facility. The factory is among the largest production sites in the country and shapes local economic life.
