Halton Hills, Administrative municipality in Greater Toronto Area, Canada.
Halton Hills is a lower-tier municipality in the Greater Toronto Area comprising two urban centers, Georgetown and Acton, set within rolling countryside. Farmland and natural reserves fill the spaces between these towns, creating a mixed landscape of built and open areas.
This municipality formed in 1974 when Georgetown, Acton, and parts of Esquesing Township merged into a single administrative unit. The consolidation brought together two established towns with their rural surroundings under one local government.
The two main towns, Georgetown and Acton, each have their own character shaped by local shops, parks, and gathering places where residents spend time together.
This area sits roughly one hour from Toronto and Niagara Falls with access to major provincial routes and regional roads connecting to larger cities. Those visiting can easily reach it by car from the surrounding region.
During Canada's 150th anniversary celebration, Georgetown put on a striking display of thousands of Canadian flags that drew attention across the country. This public show became a memorable expression of local pride.
