Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré, Catholic basilica near Saint Lawrence River, Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré, Canada.
The Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré is a Catholic pilgrimage site on the Saint Lawrence River in the municipality of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré in Quebec province. The granite and stone structure spans 113 meters in length and rises to 90 meters with its two towers blending Beaux-Arts and Romanesque design elements.
Construction of the current structure began in 1923 after fire destroyed the previous church building. The official opening took place on July 28, 1934, marking the completion of the new pilgrimage church.
The sanctuary bears the name of the Virgin Mary's mother and has served believers for centuries as a pilgrimage destination for prayers of healing and intercession. Visitors today can observe the many candle stands and votive offerings left by pilgrims from different continents.
The sanctuary opens daily throughout the year, allowing visitors to view the mosaics, wooden sculptures, and stained glass windows inside. Both towers and the interior are accessible to guests, with ample time recommended for viewing the artworks.
Two pillars near the entrance display a collection of crutches and orthopedic devices left behind by people who report healings. These objects form a powerful testimony to belief in Saint Anne's healing power.
