Architect Jules Caron designed this sporting facility, which opened its doors in 1937 and served as the home venue for Shawinigan Cataractes until 2008.
The facility maintains its status in the Quebec Cultural Heritage Directory, representing the evolution of sports infrastructure in the Mauricie region.
The arena stands at coordinates 46.5432°N and -72.7450°W, located adjacent to the newer Centre Bionest within the municipal boundaries of Shawinigan.
Initially named Shawinigan Municipal Auditorium, the facility received its current name to honor Jacques Plante, a professional ice hockey goaltender from the region.
