Fleming Windmill, Heritage windmill in LaSalle, Canada
Fleming Windmill is a five-story stone tower with a conical shape and a rotating roof from which four large wooden blades extend outward. The structure demonstrates a practical design for grain milling in this early settlement region.
Built in 1827, it is the only remaining mill with Anglo-Saxon construction methods in the province of Quebec. The structure survived over a century and a half and earned recognition for its importance as a rare preserved industrial site.
The structure once served as a gathering point for grain processing and farm work in this early settlement area. Today it shows how milling connected the community to their daily agricultural needs.
The site is located on LaSalle Boulevard and offers visitors informational panels, picnic areas, and free parking. The outdoor grounds are easily walkable and suited for a leisurely visit to explore the surroundings.
The building received heritage protection status in 1983, becoming one of the last documented examples of Anglo-Saxon mill construction on the continent. This designation makes it a rare surviving site of early industrial architecture.
