Christie Pits, Public park in western Toronto, Canada.
Christie Pits is a public park in Toronto offering three baseball diamonds, basketball courts, and multi-sport fields. The grounds also include an outdoor pool, an ice rink, a children's playground, and a community garden.
The site was originally a sand and gravel pit that was converted into a park called Willowvale in 1908. The current name Christie Pits Park was officially adopted in 1983.
The park has long served as a gathering place for baseball games and community events. Regular tournaments here bring together neighbors from different backgrounds.
The park comes alive during warmer months with various outdoor activities. In winter, the outdoor pool closes while the ice rink becomes available, making the location differently useful depending on the season.
An underground creek called Garrison Creek flows beneath the park and was converted into a sewer system in the early 1900s. This hidden waterway is a reminder of the landscape before the area became developed.
