Sherbrooke War Memorial, War memorial at King Street West, Sherbrooke, Canada
The Sherbrooke War Memorial is a monument made of granite and bronze located on King Street West in Sherbrooke. It depicts three soldiers in a trench with a winged angel figure holding a laurel wreath above them.
Construction of the memorial began in 1923 following a citizens' committee request and was dedicated on November 7, 1926. A plaque commemorating World War II casualties was added later in 1948.
A bronze plate displays 249 names of Sherbrooke soldiers who died in World War I, with an additional plaque added in 1948 for World War II casualties.
The memorial was comprehensively restored in 2009 by the Centre de Conservation du Québec to preserve its condition. It sits in a central location and is freely accessible to visitors year-round.
The bronze figures were cast in Belgium while the granite base came from quarries in Stanstead, Quebec. This combination of European casting with local stone shows a blend of craftsmanship from different sources.
