Ha! Ha! Pyramid, Memorial building in La Baie district, Saguenay, Canada.
The Ha! Ha! Pyramid is a 21-meter-tall memorial in La Baie clad with 3,000 reflective yield road signs mounted on aluminum structures in a triangular shape. The signs are arranged to create an optical pattern across the three sides.
The memorial commemorates the 1996 Saguenay River flood that devastated the region with significant loss and damage. It was constructed shortly after this event to mark the disaster and symbolize community renewal.
Artist Jean-Jules Soucy created this monument as part of a community project to transform destruction into artistic expression. The work shows how the community processed the disaster through creativity.
Visitors can climb an interior staircase to reach an observation platform with views across Baie des Ha! Ha! and the surrounding river valley. The platform offers a full perspective of the landscape below and the region beyond.
The name comes from a French word meaning unexpected obstacles, reflecting the river's character and hazards. The yellow yield signs also create a wordplay between 'céder' and 's'aider,' suggesting both yielding and mutual support.
