Granby Zoo

Granby Zoo is a large animal facility housing approximately 1800 animals from 200 species arranged across geographic zones representing Africa, Asia, South America, and Oceania. The complex includes the main zoo area, an amusement park, and a water park where visitors can spend time.

The facility was founded in 1953 by Mayor Pierre-Horace Boivin as a regional project. Over the decades, it expanded significantly to become one of Quebec's major tourist attractions with added amenities.

The facility offers educational programs that help visitors understand wildlife and conservation needs. Through observing animals from different regions, people learn how these creatures live in their natural worlds.

The site is expansive and requires several hours to explore thoroughly, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Visitors can choose which sections to prioritize based on their interests and available time.

The Asia section features a distinctive dome structure that echoes the design of Montreal's famous Biosphere building. This architectural element houses specialized displays and animal habitats that stand apart from the main zoo areas.
