The Aurora Site contains remains of a Wendat settlement characterized by longhouses and defensive structures located in present-day Ontario.
Prior to European contact in the early 1600s, this settlement belonged to the Wendat confederacy, which included five nations across Southern Ontario.
The excavated site reveals evidence of agricultural practices, including the cultivation of corn, beans, and squash, along with hunting and fishing activities.
Archaeological investigations at the site have documented village structures, storage pits, and numerous artifacts that demonstrate Wendat daily life patterns.
The settlement layout includes evidence of organized living spaces within longhouses measuring up to 90 meters in length, accommodating multiple families.
