Markham Civic Centre, Municipal complex in Markham, Canada
Markham Civic Centre is a modern administrative complex built from red brick and glass across three stories. The structure houses council chambers, municipal offices, committee rooms, and a public gallery space accommodating around 200 people.
The complex was built in 1990 according to designs by architect Arthur Erickson and later received heritage status for its architectural importance. The building reflects design principles of that era and stands as a key example of administrative architecture from the time.
The centre hosts art exhibitions and community celebrations throughout its spaces. Visitors and residents gather here for weddings, cultural events, and local meetings.
The site is easy to access through multiple entrances and provides parking for visitors. It helps to check the city website beforehand to learn about current events and opening hours for public areas.
A large park of about 11.5 hectares surrounds the building and features one of Ontario's largest outdoor skating rinks. The reflective pond in front of the south side creates a distinctive visual feature throughout the whole complex.
