Wendy Poole Park, Memorial park in Downtown Eastside Vancouver, Canada
Wendy Poole Park is a triangular green space in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver located where Alexander Street meets the Main Street Overpass. The site features a memorial boulder, walking paths, and seating with views toward Burrard Inlet.
The Vancouver Parks Commission named this park in 2001 to honor Wendy Poole, a Tsay Keh Dene woman who died in 1989. The dedication was a significant step in bringing her story and that of many other missing and murdered women from the region into public awareness.
The park serves as a gathering place where visitors come to remember Wendy Poole and acknowledge her story. The space was intentionally created as a memorial to honor women's presence and resilience in this neighborhood.
The park is easy to access from Main Street and features several benches where visitors can sit and enjoy the water views. Walking through the space at a relaxed pace lets you fully appreciate the memorial and the surroundings.
The Spirit's Rising Memorial Society maintains a carving project at the site that supports local women and youth initiatives. This ongoing work keeps the memorial connected to present-day community efforts.
