Westman Region, Administrative region in southwestern Manitoba, Canada.
The Westman Region is an area in southwestern Manitoba, Canada, covering open prairie, rolling hills, and patches of forest. Brandon is the largest city in the area and serves as the main centre for services and amenities across the region.
Indigenous peoples lived in this landscape for thousands of years before European settlers arrived in the 19th century. The arrival of the railway brought new farming communities and shaped many of the towns that still exist today.
The region takes its name from its position in western Manitoba. Visitors notice the presence of First Nations communities through local place names, seasonal gatherings, and the way people across the area relate to the land.
The region covers a wide area with communities spread far apart, so having a vehicle makes getting around much easier. Visiting more than one town gives a better sense of what the area offers in terms of landscape and local life.
Spruce Woods Provincial Park is home to Spirit Sands, a stretch of sand dunes sitting in the middle of boreal forest. These dunes are a natural remnant left behind by glacial activity at the end of the last ice age.
