Carling Campus

The Carling Campus spans 148 hectares with 11 interconnected buildings, totaling 207,000 square meters of office and administrative space at Carling Avenue and Moodie Drive.

Northern Electric established research laboratories on the site in 1960, which later transformed into Bell-Northern Research and subsequently became a major Nortel facility.

The complex represents a shift in Ottawa's identity from a government center to a technological research hub during the late 20th century.

The facility now accommodates 8,500 National Defence staff members who were previously scattered across 40 different locations throughout the National Capital Region.

Electronic surveillance devices were discovered within the campus buildings in 2013, raising questions about industrial espionage during the Nortel period.
