Kodak Heights, Former photographic manufacturing complex in Mount Dennis, Toronto, Canada.
Kodak Heights is a former industrial complex in the Mount Dennis neighbourhood of Toronto, Canada, made up of several factory buildings spread across a large lot once connected to the Canadian Pacific Railway. One main building survives and now serves as the entrance to a light rail transit station.
Kodak acquired the land in 1912 to build a production base for the North American market, and over the following decades the site expanded steadily. After operations wound down in the early 2000s, the main building was incorporated into the Eglinton Crosstown LRT project.
Kodak Heights was the main employer in Mount Dennis for decades, and many local families had at least one member working on the site. Today, small exhibitions inside the remaining building recall what daily life looked like for those who worked there.
The surviving building is accessible directly through the Keelesdale LRT station, which also connects to several bus routes. Visiting during the day gives the best chance of accessing the interior exhibition areas.
The factory ran its own power plant, making it completely independent from the city grid for electricity. The tall chimney from that plant stood as a reference point for the neighbourhood for decades and is still remembered by long-time residents.
