Debert Palaeo-Indian Site, Archaeological site in Colchester County, Canada
The Debert Palaeo-Indian Site contains five distinct archaeological locations positioned along glacial ridges between stream valleys in Nova Scotia.
Dating from 8500 to 9000 BCE, this settlement represents one of the earliest documented human occupations in Atlantic Canada, designated as a National Historic Site in 1972.
Stone tools and artifacts recovered from the site demonstrate the capabilities of early Aboriginal peoples who monitored caribou herds and manufactured hunting implements.
The archaeological site extends across 22 acres, with excavations revealing 4,500 artifacts that document the activities of early North American inhabitants.
This location stands as the most northeastern Palaeo-Indian site discovered in North America, situated in a region that was previously covered by glaciers.
