Mira River Provincial Park, Provincial park on Mira River in Cape Breton County, Canada.
Mira River Provincial Park is a riverside woodland in Cape Breton County with mixed forests, walking trails, and waterfront access spread across roughly 87 hectares. The park features camping zones, picnic spots, and a boat launch that serve as main visitor gathering points.
The park was officially established in 1984 after the land was acquired in 1962, following decades during which the area remained largely undeveloped. Before that, the river valley had been home to Indigenous peoples and early European settlers.
The river has long been central to Mi'kmaq life and later attracted French settlers who built communities here. Today visitors can sense this layered past through the landscape and the way the waterfront continues to draw people together.
The park offers camping zones, picnic areas, and a boat launch for water activities, making it suitable for both day visits and overnight stays. Summer is the best season to visit when facilities are fully open and weather conditions are mild.
The ground beneath the park contains rock layers from different geological ages, some as old as 500 million years, telling the story of Earth's changing surface. Walking through the park means moving across layers of ancient time that few visitors realize lie beneath their feet.
