Bibliothèque Monique-Corriveau, Modern library in Sainte-Foy–Sillery–Cap-Rouge, Canada
The Bibliothèque Monique-Corriveau occupies a former church building with expansive windows and skylights that flood the interior with natural light. Inside, the space features reading areas, study zones, and collections arranged to encourage exploration and browsing.
The structure began as the Saint-Denys-du-Plateau church in 1964, serving the community as a place of worship for decades. It was later repurposed as a library while retaining key architectural features from its original design.
The library functions as a gathering place where locals come to read, study, and participate in community programs. It shapes daily life in the neighborhood by offering space for people of all ages to learn and connect.
The location is accessible by vehicle and features complete wheelchair access throughout the facility. Hours are extended on weekdays, making it convenient for people with varied schedules to visit.
The architects Jean-Marie Roy and Dan Hanganu designed the conversion to blend the original church frame with contemporary design elements. The result creates a distinctive tent-like form that catches the eye of anyone passing through.
