Beromünster, municipality in the canton of Lucerne, Switzerland
Beromünster is a delightful municipality located in the heart of the district of Sursee in the canton of Lucerne in Switzerland. First mentioned in 1223 as villa Beronensis and then again in 1333 as Münster in Ergöwe, the municipality was not officially named Beromünster until 1934. The municipality boasts two distinct settlements; Flecken and the church-owned village of Beromünster. Flecken was created when the entire area was bulldozed and rebuilt after a fire back in 1764. All of the buildings are now arranged in three neat row along the main road and a parallel side road. Meanwhile, Beromünster offers many traditional experiences such as mesmerizing views of the Wynental landscape, visit to an old church and tasting of classic Swiss cuisine. Adding extra charm to the municipality is its privileged location and an interesting environmental statistic. At an area of 42.12 km2, 21.1% is covered by forests and 64.7% used for agricultural purposes. However, only 16.32% was forested according to a 1997 land survey, whereas 3.54% is used for orchards and vine crops. In terms of built-up areas, 4.29% is covered with buildings, 0.24% being industrial and 0.68% for special purpose developments. A special mention must be given to the parks and greenbelts with a 0.27% area, and the transportation infrastructure with 2.49%. The only percentage area of the municipality sectioned off as unproductive land is 0.1% for unproductive flowing water, and 0.03% for other land. The delightful municipality of Beromünster is an ideal spot for visitors looking to maximize their Swiss tourist experiences in terms of both natural and built wonders.
