Lake Brienz, Alpine lake in Bernese Oberland, Switzerland.

Lake Brienz extends 14 kilometers in length and reaches depths of 260 meters, containing turquoise waters from glacial sediments beneath steep mountain slopes.

The lake region has supported communities since prehistoric times, with archaeological evidence revealing early settlements along its banks dating back thousands of years.

The north shore town of Brienz maintains traditional Swiss woodcarving practices, with skilled artisans creating intricate wooden sculptures throughout the year.

Regular boat services connect lakeside communities from Brienz to Interlaken, while hiking paths trace the shoreline offering various walking routes between villages.

The lake's nutrient-poor waters result in minimal fish populations, with annual catches reaching only 10,000 kilograms across its entire 29.8 square kilometer surface.
