Bürgenstock

Bürgenstock is a mountain peak rising to 1128 meters above Lake Lucerne, with steep northern slopes that drop directly down to the water. The sharp rock faces create a dramatic wall along one side of the lake.

The mountain's name was first recorded in writing in 1836, though it had previously been called Bürgenberg for centuries. It became a destination for visitors throughout the 1800s as hospitality facilities grew on its slopes.

The mountain has long been a gathering place where people celebrate and conduct business together. The hotels and conference spaces here have drawn guests from around the world seeking Swiss hospitality.

You can reach the summit via a route of about five kilometers from Ennetbürgen that includes several hairpin turns with an average slope of nine percent. The path is well-traveled and marked, making it straightforward to navigate.

The mountain is home to a remarkable exterior elevator that runs along the cliff face and ranks among Europe's highest outdoor lifts. This lift connects different levels on the mountainside and offers an unusual ride with views of the lake.
