The Gottfried Keller Foundation manages over 8,500 art objects distributed across 110 museums throughout Switzerland, including paintings, sculptures, and manuscripts.
Lydia Welti-Escher established the foundation in 1890 with a donation of 3.46 million Swiss francs in securities and land to preserve Swiss cultural heritage.
The foundation collects Swiss artworks spanning from the 12th to 20th centuries, including stained glass, goldsmithery, drawings, and liturgical objects.
The foundation opens Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00, with extended hours until 19:00 on Thursdays, while remaining closed on Mondays.
Five members nominated by the Swiss Federal Council manage the foundation and determine art acquisitions to prevent important Swiss artworks from being sold abroad.
