The Kunst Museum Winterthur | Beim Stadthaus occupies a 1915 building by Robert Rittmeyer and Walter Furrer at Museumstrasse 52, on the edge of Winterthur's old town, opposite the Stadthaus. Its facade carries the inscription «Der Kunst und Wissenschaft». A glazed steel extension with a sawtooth roof by Gigon/Guyer, added in 1995, nearly doubled the exhibition space and houses newer collection works and temporary exhibitions.

The Kunstverein Winterthur, founded in 1848, owns the collection; its purchases began with Johann Caspar Weidenmann's bequest in 1850 and gained national attention in 1899 with Ferdinand Hodler's Der Lebensmüde. Built 1913–1915 to plans by Robert Rittmeyer and Walter Furrer, the museum opened on 2 January 1916. In 2018 it merged with the Museum Oskar Reinhart and Villa Flora as Kunst Museum Winterthur.

The Kunstverein Winterthur, founded in 1848, owns the collection and still runs the museum. Its members were once required to keep watercolours and drawings for the association, and the first purchases began with the estate of painter Johann Caspar Weidenmann in 1850. The Galerieverein, now called "Freunde des Kunstmuseums Winterthur", was founded in 1913 and marked its centenary with an outdoor sculpture by Richard Deacon.

The museum stands at Museumstrasse 52, on the edge of Winterthur's old town, opposite the Stadthaus. The 1995 Gigon/Guyer extension, a glazed steel structure with a shed roof, nearly doubled the exhibition space and holds the newer works and temporary shows. The natural history museum shares the same building.
