Church of San Giovanni Battista, Mogno

The San Giovanni Battista Church features a cylindrical stone structure with an elliptical base, transitioning to a circular glass roof that allows natural light.

After an avalanche destroyed the original 17th-century chapel in 1986, architect Mario Botta designed this new church, which was completed in 1996.

The church incorporates local materials, including marble from Peccia Valley and gneiss from Riveo quarries, connecting the structure to regional building traditions.

The church walls measure two meters thick at the base and narrow to 50 centimeters at the top, providing structural stability in the alpine environment.

Two granite buttresses traverse the building's interior, creating an axis that aligns with the original church's nave position.
