Funivia San Carlo-Robiei

Funivia San Carlo-Robiei is an aerial lift in Val Bavona that connects the lower village of San Carlo with the mountain station at Robiei. The cable car spans about 4 kilometers over steep terrain, carrying passengers up roughly 850 meters (2,800 feet) into the high alpine landscape.

The cable car was built in 1964 primarily to support the construction and maintenance of hydroelectric infrastructure. It continues to serve the Robiei power plant and related water management facilities in the high Alps.

The alpine region accessible by the cable car contains traditional mountain huts and shelters that reflect the historical importance of alpine farming.

The journey takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes and the cabin is roomy enough for many visitors at once. The lift operates during summer months, though it is wise to check conditions beforehand since maintenance or bad weather can cause closures.

The upper station area sits near the Basodino glacier and overlooks multiple mountain lakes that dot the high country. From this point, hikers can access alpine routes that would otherwise require long treks from the valley floor.
