Zivilschutz-Museum

The Zivilschutz-Museum occupies an underground fortified facility and displays equipment and materials from emergency preparedness. The rooms themselves are original protective bunkers that give a sense of actual conditions during such times.

The museum was created to document Switzerland's civil defense efforts during World War II and the Cold War. These two periods shaped the systems and strategies visible in the preserved facilities.

The exhibits show how Switzerland prepared for emergencies and how communities were meant to protect themselves during crises. You see the practical thinking and precautions that shaped everyday life.

The site is a short walk from Wipkingen station and can be visited only on certain days per year. It is helpful to check in advance which opening dates are scheduled and allow enough time to explore the underground rooms.

The facility still displays the original infrastructure like ventilation systems and storage areas that were actually used during decades of uncertainty. This original arrangement helps visitors understand what daily life would have been like under such conditions.
