Tanzhaus Zürich, Contemporary dance center at Limmat River, Zurich, Switzerland.
Tanzhaus Zurich is a contemporary dance center located along the Limmat River featuring two performance stages and three professional dance studios. The building spreads across multiple levels with production rooms, a multifunctional hall, dedicated rehearsal spaces, and areas open to public activities.
The original building at this location burned down in 2012, destroying the previous dance center and the Swiss Textile School housed together. The architectural firm Estudio Barozzi Veiga designed the new replacement structure, which opened in 2019.
The center brings together professional dancers, international ensembles, and young performers who participate in workshops, classes, productions, and performances throughout the dance season. This community strengthens the city's connection to contemporary dance and creates space for artistic exchange.
Opening times and available classes change with the season and are best checked directly with the center. The location along the Limmat is easily accessible by public transport and sits in a well-serviced part of the city.
The building's roof operates as a public space, giving visitors an unexpected way to experience the structure from above. Its trapezoidal shape channels natural light through the interior in a way that shifts throughout the day.
