Altenalp Türm

Altenalp Türm is a mountain peak in the Appenzell Alps that forms part of the limestone ridge stretching from Ebenalp toward Säntis. The ridge narrows significantly as it rises, with steep drop-offs on both sides creating a challenging path to reach the summit.

The peak has served as a landmark in the Alpine landscape since the 1800s as the region developed its mountain trails and climbing traditions. Local climbers gradually established routes through this area over many decades, shaping the path system that exists today.

Local mountaineering clubs organize regular expeditions to Altenalp Türm, maintaining traditional Alpine climbing techniques and safety protocols throughout the seasons.

The climb requires mountaineering experience and equipment such as ropes and carabiners, particularly on the steeper sections of the route. Visitors should start early in the day to ensure adequate daylight for the technically demanding passages and changing weather conditions.

The peak stands as the northernmost point above 2,000 meters in Switzerland, marking a notable geographic boundary within the Swiss Alps. This location makes it a special reference point for hikers navigating this mountain region.
