Montreux, Historical paddle steamer in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The Montreux is a white paddle steamer of the Compagnie Générale de Navigation sur le Lac Léman, built by Sulzer in Winterthur and launched in December 1903. It measures 63 metres over the main deck and 14.3 metres in beam, with a dark red stripe along the hull, two enclosed decks of windows and an open upper deck with railings and lifebuoys. A tall wooden mast topped with a green ball stands before the black-and-yellow smokestack, and the name Montreux appears on the bow and on the curved paddle box.

Ordered in 1902 from Sulzer Frères in Winterthur, the Montreux was launched in December 1903 and entered service on 12 May 1904, the oldest vessel in the CGN's Belle Époque fleet. Its twin, the Général Dufour, followed in 1905 but was laid up from 1967 and scrapped in 1977. During the Second World War the Montreux was stopped because of its heavy coal consumption during a shortage.

The Montreux carries the name of the town at the lake's eastern end, and its 1904 interior was decorated in Art Nouveau, with mahogany panelling and flower panels by Joseph Mittey, a professor at Geneva's school of industrial arts; the narcissus was chosen as the emblem. A single surviving panel of the original panelling, found during the 1999-2001 restoration, is displayed on board. In spring 2004 the ship received the whistle of the Major Davel (1892-1967).

The Montreux carries up to 1,100 passengers and is one of five paddle steamers run by the CGN across Lake Geneva. Boarding is at CGN piers, and the ship is based at Ouchy in Lausanne. Look for the restored Louis-Philippe woodwork from the Valais in the salon and the single surviving original panel displayed on board.

The steam engine running today was built in the 21st century by DLM AG of Winterthur, modelled on the original machine of the Helvétie, and is controlled remotely from the bridge without an engineer below deck. A single panel of the original Art Nouveau mahogany panelling, painted by Joseph Mittey, was recovered during the 1999–2001 restoration and is displayed on board.
