Altberg Observation Tower, Observation tower in Dänikon, Switzerland

The Altberg Observation Tower is a 34.52-metre tower on the Altberg in the municipality of Dänikon, canton Zurich. Its platform, about 30 metres up, is reached by 147 steps and four intermediate landings. Since 2011 four panoramic panels on the platform have helped visitors identify the surrounding area.

The Altberg Observation Tower was inaugurated on 10 July 2010, making it one of the youngest observation towers in the canton of Zurich. Its construction cost 660,000 Swiss francs, raised through donations from municipalities, companies and private individuals. A display board beside the tower lists every donor who gave 100 francs or more, and plaques above each of the 147 steps name donors of 500 francs or more.

The location sits in a forested area and is best reached on foot from nearby parking. Visitors should wear appropriate footwear since climbing to the top requires physical effort.

On clear days the view extends to distant Alpine peaks and the city of Zurich, offering a wide panorama of the region. This broad perspective makes the tower appealing to those who want to see how different parts of the landscape connect.
