Bahnmuseum Kerzers, Railway museum in Kerzers and Kallnach, Switzerland
Bahnmuseum Kerzers is a museum that collects locomotives, rail cars, and technical equipment from different periods of Swiss railway history. The collection is now housed at two locations - in Kerzers and in Kallnach - where visitors can view the historical vehicles.
The museum originated in the late 1990s when a family began collecting historical railway vehicles and officially opened in 2002. The later move to Kallnach happened because the original Kerzers location lacked suitable infrastructure for continued operations.
The museum displays dining cars that once served on the route between Oensingen and Balsthal and were connected to international train services. Visitors can see how these cars were equipped and what role they played in Swiss railway operations.
The museum spreads across two locations, so visitors should plan ahead to decide which site to visit or explore both in sequence. The vehicles are mostly displayed outdoors, so good weather makes the visit more enjoyable for viewing and photography.
Two dining cars in the museum were built in Prague in 1906 and 1907 and later came to Swiss Federal Railways. This Eastern European origin is unusual for vehicles that spent decades operating within the Swiss network.
