Drahtseilbahn Unterwasser–Iltios

The Iltios funicular railway extends 1195 meters through the Toggenburg valley, connecting Unterwasser at 911 meters to Iltios station at 1339 meters elevation.

The funicular railway began operations in 1934 and underwent significant modifications in 2005, when its track gauge was increased from 800 to 1000 millimeters.

The railway forms an integral part of the Obertoggenburg ski region, connecting the slopes of Wildhaus, Unterwasser, and Alt St. Johann for winter sports enthusiasts.

The funicular system operates two carriages, each accommodating 100 passengers, with a transport capacity of 850 people per hour in each direction.

In 2024, one of the seven-ton historic carriages will move to the Cable Car Museum in Kandersteg, while the second remains in Toggenburg.
