Schauensee Castle, Medieval castle in Kriens, Switzerland.

Schauensee Castle is a fortified structure in Kriens featuring a distinctive tower built in the 13th century at an elevation of 572 meters. The complex includes several buildings that were added and modified over the centuries.

Knight Rudolf von Schauensee founded the castle in the 13th century, but it fell into ruin over time. Johannes von Mettenwyl carried out a major restoration in the late 16th century that brought it back to use.

The Meyer von Schauensee family shaped this building into a regional landmark during the 18th century through their renovations and additions. You can still see how their vision influenced the layout and design of the rooms today.

The castle grounds are open to visitors year-round and offer clear views over the city of Lucerne and the surrounding countryside. The path to reach it is straightforward and not steep, making it an easy walk from the village.

The municipality of Kriens purchased this property in 1963 and it has since become a venue for local celebrations and receptions. This shift in purpose has made it an active part of community life today.
