Krummturm, Medieval defensive tower in Solothurn, Switzerland
Krummturm is a pentagonal tower near the Aare River with uneven interior levels connected by wooden staircases. The floors lead down to a roughly 10-meter-deep dungeon beneath the structure.
Construction began in 1454 and was completed between 1462 and 1463, making it the oldest unmodified structure in Solothurn. The building represents late medieval defensive architecture in the region.
The tower hosts exhibitions and cultural events that draw visitors throughout the year. It serves as a gathering space for local artistic activities and shapes daily life in the old town.
Visitors can explore the three upper floors and enjoy views from above. The access is straightforward, but the stairs are steep and narrow, so plan enough time for climbing.
