Château du Crest, Medieval wine castle in Jussy, Switzerland.
Château du Crest is a fortified castle on a hilltop surrounded by vineyards, featuring towers, crenelated walls, and a moat encircling the main structure. The property includes cellars for wine production and working vineyard land that surrounds the buildings.
The first fortification was built in 1220 as a residence for a vassal of the Bishop of Geneva. It was destroyed in 1590 during conflicts with Savoy, but the structure was later rebuilt.
Today the castle functions as a working vineyard producing wines under the Geneva AOC designation, a craft passed down through generations of the Micheli family. Visitors can see how the production and cellar work connect to the living history of the estate.
The castle opens for events where visitors can taste the estate's wines and tour the cellars. It is best to check in advance for open dates, as visits are tied to specific events.
Since 1995, the Micheli-du-Crest Foundation has managed this nationally significant cultural site, combining active wine production with architectural heritage preservation. This makes it a rare example where historical structure and modern craft work together.
