Sennhof, Historic correctional facility in Chur, Switzerland
The Sennhof building stands in the center of Chur, featuring traditional Swiss architectural elements with a rectangular structure and multiple floors.
Built in 1603 by the Chur city council and bishop's mint master, the Sennhof initially operated as an alpine dairy before becoming a correctional facility in 1817.
The building now houses part of the Fundaziun Capauliana collection, displaying regional artworks from creators like Segantini, Giacometti, Carigiet, and Fontana.
The renovated structure contains modern apartments and spaces dedicated to small businesses, combining residential and commercial purposes in the city center.
Archaeological discoveries near the Sennhof indicate human settlement dating back to 11,000 BC, marking one of Switzerland's earliest inhabited locations.
