Kantonsbibliothek Graubünden

Kantonsbibliothek Graubunden is located in central Chur and houses approximately 450,000 media titles along with 26,000 audio materials in three regional languages. The facility functions as a modern library for borrowing and researching materials across many fields of knowledge.

The institution was founded in 1883 from the library collection of the cantonal secondary school and developed into the central repository for all media published in Graubünden. Since its establishment, it has expanded continuously and remains the primary archive of the region's cultural output.

The library preserves the Raetica collection, which brings together prints, audiovisual materials, posters, graphics, and image reproductions related to the Graubünden region. Visitors can explore extensive materials that document the cultural heritage of the area.

The facility is open Monday through Saturday and provides various access options for visitors. Plan a visit in the morning or early afternoon to allow adequate time to explore the collections.

The collection includes nitrate films by Carl Brandt from 1893 to 1972 that document social life during the winter months in the resort town of Arosa. These rare films offer a fascinating glimpse into the history of Swiss winter tourism.
