Bolo Museum, Technology museum at EPFL campus in Ecublens, Switzerland
The Bolo Museum is a technology museum on the EPFL campus in Ecublens, housing a large collection of computers, software, and technical publications that document the history of digital technology. The exhibits span from early mainframe machines to more recent gaming consoles, showing how these devices changed across the decades.
The museum grew out of the private collection of Yves Bolognini, which became the foundation of the museum in 1995. In 2002, the collection moved to the EPFL campus, where it became accessible to a wider public and gained support from academic resources.
The collection shows how computers and video games changed the way people work and spend free time over the decades. Visitors can see how these technologies became part of everyday life and what role they play in modern society.
The museum is in the INF building on the EPFL campus and opens on weekdays, so it works best for visitors with a flexible schedule. The EPFL train station is nearby, making it easy to reach by public transport.
The collection covers roughly 60 years of computing history, starting with machines from the postwar years. Many of the objects are still in working order, cared for by trained volunteers from the Mémoires Informatiques foundation.
