Breithorn, Mountain summit in Valais, Switzerland
Breithorn is a mountain summit in the Lepontine Alps standing at about 2,600 meters. The peak features rocky slopes and alpine meadows with expansive views across the surrounding ridges and valleys.
The peak has long served as a natural landmark in the high Alpine landscape of Valais. Over time it became an established destination for mountaineers and climbers from the region and beyond.
Local mountaineering groups maintain regular expeditions to Breithorn, contributing to the strong Alpine climbing traditions of the Valais canton.
Several hiking routes lead to the summit, with the trail from Grengiols being a popular choice. The climb is most feasible between spring and fall when snow and ice coverage are minimal.
Monte Leone is clearly visible from the summit and marks the boundary between two distinct mountain regions. This location makes the peak an important visual reference point in the local landscape.
