Cima Verosso, Mountain summit in Pennine Alps, Piedmont, Italy
Cima Verosso is a mountain summit in the Pennine Alps reaching 2,444 meters (8,020 feet) in elevation. The peak separates the Valle di Bognanco from the Val Divedro valley with steep rocky slopes on both sides.
The mountain has served as a natural border marker between Italy and Switzerland in the Pennine Alps region. This geographic position established its role as a key reference point when territorial boundaries were formally defined.
Local mountaineering groups maintain several climbing routes to the summit, preserving traditional Alpine climbing techniques through organized expeditions.
Hikers can reach the summit via trails starting from Bognanco valley, with the best climbing window between June and September when snow coverage is lowest. During this period the terrain is most stable and routes are safest to travel.
From the summit you can see Tschawinersee lake on the Swiss side while standing exactly where Italian and Swiss territories meet. This location offers the unusual experience of standing at an international border while viewing the landscape on both sides.
