Gauschla, Mountain summit in canton St. Gallen, Switzerland
Gauschla is a mountain summit located at 2,310 meters (7,580 feet) on the southern edge of the Alvier range in eastern Switzerland. The peak rises prominently from the surrounding landscape in the canton of St. Gallen with steep slopes on most sides.
The mountain long served as a geographical boundary between different cantons, shaping territorial divisions in this region. Its position along this border line made the summit an important reference point in Swiss alpine geography.
Local hiking groups maintain informal trails to the summit, preserving traditional Alpine pathways that connect surrounding communities through mountaineering activities.
The climb starts with a self-service cable car from the Oberschan Museum to Hotel Alvier, then continues on foot to the summit. The final section of the ascent requires sturdy footwear and some endurance as the route grows steeper.
From the summit on clear days you can see far beyond the Rhine Valley and Lake Walen to glimpse territories of neighboring countries to the east. This expansive view makes the peak a rewarding vantage point for surveying the landscape across multiple borders.
