Gessler Castle

Gessler Castle is a ruin perched on a steep rocky outcrop overlooking Kuessancht. The remaining walls show parts of a substantial stone tower and adjacent residential structure.

The castle was built in the High Middle Ages as a stronghold for a noble family and remained occupied until the late 1300s. Early 20th-century excavations uncovered artifacts from this period of occupation.

The castle served as the seat of a noble family who governed the surrounding lands as a feudal holding. Visitors can trace how this family shaped the local region through their presence here.

The site is accessible on foot and lies within reach of local hiking paths around Kuessancht. Wear sturdy shoes because the approach is steep and crosses rocky ground.

Archaeologists uncovered a complete medieval combat helmet beneath a collapsed staircase during excavations, making it one of the rarest examples of its design ever found. This discovery reveals details about combat practices and the equipment soldiers wore in that era.
