Monte Generoso Observatory

The Monte Generoso Observatory was an observation facility in the southern Swiss Alps equipped with a large reflecting telescope. The installation was situated at high altitude and provided visitors with opportunities to explore the night sky.

The observatory was founded in 1996 and conducted astronomical observations for over two decades. In 2020, the facility was relocated and operations at this location ended.

The Monte Generoso Insubrica Astronomy Group conducted regular educational programs and stargazing sessions for both local residents and international visitors.

The site was accessible by a mountain railway that climbed to the peak and offered convenient access. Visitors should expect variable conditions at altitude and dress accordingly.

The telescope was built according to a specialized optical design that enabled professional observations. This instrument design was unusually specialized for Swiss conditions.
