Sonnenbergturm, Stone observation tower in Möhlin, Switzerland
The Sonnenbergturm is a stone structure standing on a hill near Möhlin that overlooks the surrounding landscape. Inside, a wooden staircase leads to a platform at the top where visitors can look out in all directions.
The structure was built in 1913 from local sandstone and replaced an older wooden building from 1875. The original idea came from people associated with the Rheinfelden spa who wanted to create a viewing spot.
The tower represents how local communities in the early 20th century created spaces to enjoy their landscape. Visitors gathering at the top share a panoramic experience that connects them to the surrounding region.
You can visit the structure year-round and climb the staircase to the platform. There is a small kiosk nearby that opens on certain days and offers refreshments.
At the platform there is a circular orientation panel system that helps you identify distant places and landscapes. You can use it to spot mountain ranges and forests in the distance and gain perspective on the entire region.
