A Pro Castle

A Pro Castle is a stone fortress beside Lake Lucerne with a moat and thick defensive walls from the 16th century. The structure has multiple floors that now house exhibition spaces and dining facilities.

Brothers Jakob I and Peter A Pro built this fortified residence between 1555 and 1558 as their personal manor house. The project was completed during a period when such residential fortifications were still being constructed in Switzerland.

The castle displays regional mineral collections from the Central Alps in its upper floors. This combination brings together historical architecture with scientific interest for visitors.

Visitors can dine at a restaurant serving regional dishes and view the mineral collection in the upper floors. A nearby mineral museum complements the castle visit.

The castle is a remarkable example of a late Gothic pond fortress that combines defensive elements with residential comfort. This concept was relatively rare in Switzerland and makes it a special testimony to its era.
