Museum Lindwurm, Local museum in Stein am Rhein, Switzerland
Museum Lindwurm occupies the Lindworm house and displays how people lived and worked in the 19th century. The exhibits spread across several rooms with furnishings, tools, and everyday objects from that era.
The collection focuses on living conditions around 1850, when electricity, heating, and running water did not exist. The house preserves a snapshot of that era and how daily life transformed afterward.
A gallery presents works by Hermann Knecht, an artist who painted Rhine landscapes during the 1930s. His paintings show how the river and surrounding land appeared to someone living in this region at that time.
The museum is open from March through October and is best explored on foot, as the rooms connect via stairs. It helps to allow enough time to see all floors and different areas thoroughly.
The attic displays dried herbs and laundered clothing arranged as they were stored 150 years ago. Visitors can lie on traditional straw mattresses to discover how stiff and scratchy sleeping on them actually was.
