Kurhaus Gyrenbad

Kurhaus Gyrenbad is a spa complex comprising three timber-framed wings connected together and positioned on a slope facing south. The buildings feature preserved wooden construction methods and were updated with contemporary amenities while keeping their original character intact.

The site began as a farm called Hof Rueti in the 1300s, transforming gradually into a bathhouse over the following centuries. Its importance was confirmed when it appeared in Zurich tax records in 1464, marking its recognition as an established institution.

This spa complex served as a gathering place for people seeking relaxation and healing over centuries. The wooden boards displaying bathing rules from the 1600s in the Women's Salon reveal how formal and regulated the bathing experience once was.

The complex sits on a hillside surrounded by gardens and wooded grounds accessible by walking paths from the main building. Comfortable footwear is recommended due to the sloping terrain and natural landscape surrounding the structures.

A wooden passageway with a bell connects the main building to a three-story guest house and leads to a two-story terrace overlooking gardens. This transition space is an unusual architectural detail that links the complex's different sections with a distinctly old-fashioned charm.
