Zentrum Töss, Brutalist community center in Töss district, Winterthur, Switzerland
Zentrum Töss is a brutalist architectural ensemble made of concrete structures, including a 39-meter residential tower and a connected hotel building. The complex centers around a main plaza and houses retail shops, banking facilities, and a library.
The project began in 1968 as a collaboration between Rieter Machine Factory, Winterthur Insurance, and city administration. It opened in October 1970 and has shaped the infrastructure of the Töss district ever since.
The center has functioned as a gathering place for the Töss district community since opening. Its spacious event hall and public areas continue to host concerts, markets, and neighborhood meetings that bring residents together.
The location sits near Winterthur Töss station with convenient bus connections. Note that different facilities within the complex have varying hours, so checking ahead before your visit works best.
The complex served as a filming location for the Swiss film 'Platzspitzbaby' in 2020, appearing in several scenes. Its brutalist facades and central plaza provided an authentic backdrop for the production.
